Today is the third Wednesday in July and RIDE TO WORK DAY.
Good reasons for riding your bike to work are:
Riding to work is a great idea everyday, but why not make an effort on at least this one day a year, to make the trip on two wheels?
www.ridetowork.org is a not for profit organization that advocates and supports the use of motorcycles for transportation, and provides information about transportation riding to the public.

Jo Stafford - The Columbia Hits Collection - You Belong to Me (USA)
Jo Stafford passed away today at her home in Century City, California. She was 90 years old.
Scars on Broadway is the group started up by System of a Down members Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan who insist this is more of a side-project than proof that System of a Down is no more. Either way, it’s a good thing as Scars on Broadway rule in their own particular way. “They Say” is driven by some knuckle-dragging riffs and Malakian’s sneering, Johnny Rotten-esque vocals and crazed guitar lines.

My little brother’s band, Toad, headlined an all-ages show at the Mainstage Cafe in Pompton Lakes yesterday. It was the first time I saw them live, and it was a blast. Of course I am biased, but in all honesty their performance really was awesome. The personalities of all three guys really showed as they belted out some classic rock songs and originals as well. They were having a good time, and their energy spread to the 200+ paying customers that made the scene.

Fred Dour of New Jersey is enjoying breaking in his new 2008 Harley-Davidson FLHTCUI Classic Electra Glide. His bike sports the new Candy Red Sunglo, and he got it just in time to ride to work on RIDE TO WORK DAY, which is coming up on Wednesday, July 16th.

Independence Day
The flag should be flown every day, but today is a particularly appropriate day.
Flag-flying Fact #9: When flags of States, cities, or localities, or pennants of societies are flown on the same halyard with the flag of the United States, the latter should always be at the peak. When the flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the flag of the United States should be hoisted first and lowered last. No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the United States flag’s right.
The rules and customs presented herein are in accordance with the July 7, 1976 amendment to the Flag Code (Public Law 94-344, 94th Congress. S.J. Res.49).

Mr. Grinch saw Yankee Stadium for the first time tonight. Too bad it was to witness a 3-2 loss to the Texas Rangers.
The bleachers are a fun place to see a game, but my ass is killing me!
I took the Yankee Clipper ferry from Hoboken right to the game. We sailed under almost every bridge that goes across the East River. It was beautiful going to and coming from the House that Ruth Built. I think we will take the boat again when we go on the 30th when the Orioles are in town.

What is a Hurricane?
A hurricane is a type of tropical cyclone, which is a generic term for a low pressure system that generally forms in the tropics. The cyclone is accompanied by thunderstorms and, in the Northern Hemisphere, a counterclockwise circulation of winds near the earth’s surface. Tropical cyclones are classified as follows:
* Sustained winds
A 1-minute average wind measured at about 33 ft (10 meters) above the surface.
** 1 knot = 1 nautical mile per hour or 1.15 statute miles per hour. Abbreviated as “kt”.
Tropical Depression
An organized system of clouds and thunderstorms with a defined surface circulation and maximum sustained winds* of 38 mph (33 kt**) or less
Tropical Storm
An organized system of strong thunderstorms with a defined surface circulation and maximum sustained winds of 39-73 mph (34-63 kt)
Hurricane
An intense tropical weather system of strong thunderstorms with a well-defined surface circulation and maximum sustained winds of 74 mph (64 kt) or higher
Hurricanes are categorized according to the strength of their winds using the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. A Category 1 storm has the lowest wind speeds, while a Category 5 hurricane has the strongest. These are relative terms, because lower category storms can sometimes inflict greater damage than higher category storms, depending on where they strike and the particular hazards they bring. In fact, tropical storms can also produce significant damage and loss of life, mainly due to flooding.
Officially, the Atlantic hurricane season is from 1 June to 30 November, but as the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) notes:
“There is nothing magical in these dates, and hurricanes have occurred outside of these six months, but these dates were selected to encompass over 97% of tropical activity.”
